In Harmony with Nature

logo-cgbcAs a member of the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC), an organization that accelerates the design and construction of green buildings in Canada, Terra Firma Development Corporation strongly promotes the advancement of energy and water-efficiency measures in its development. CaGBC’s vision of a “transformed built environment leading into a sustainable future” very much dovetails with our aim of developing in a socially responsible manner and we will work closely with CaGBC to ensure that this vision becomes a reality. We work with the best in-class engineers, architects and organizations around to research and implement the latest technologies and thinking, integrate with the natural environment and respect the needs of the local population.

Terra Firma recognizes that the world’s natural resources need to be protected now and in the future. Our planning process is based on understanding and utilizing the natural and cultural amenities of a site to add both value to a project and to develop communities that are in harmony with the natural surroundings.

Our building design and construction practices will seek to significantly reduce or eliminate the negative impact of buildings on the environment and occupants in five broad areas.

Sustainable Site Planning
Rainwater Harvesting & Water Efficiency
Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy
Conservation of Materials & Resources
Indoor Environmental Quality

Sustainable Site Planning

By improving efficiency, optimizing energy use, managing heat, reducing waste, using renewable resources and using grids strategically, our development will rise above the status quo for sustainability in the region while simultaneously striving for excellence in a resort experience.

Rainwater Harvesting & Water Efficiency

Our water recycling practices throughout the Forest Lakes development prevent pollution and maximize resources by redirecting nutrient-enriched treated wastewater from discharging into streams and lakes and onto beaches for other beneficial uses.

Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy

Our energy systems have been designed in such a way as to not only optimize consumption, but to make sense financially, now and in the future. As well, excess heating from equipment and spaces will be used to heat water and spaces in other buildings, rather than be wasted.

Conservation of Materials & Resources

A building that uses resources more efficiently can greatly reduce operating costs. Green systems and materials reduce energy consumption, which in turn reduce your energy bills. They also increase asset value and profits and decrease marketing time – making your dollar go further for longer.

Indoor Environmental Quality

Green building isn’t just good for the environment, it’s good for everyone. Sustainable design and technology enhance a resident’s overall quality of life by improving air and water quality and reducing noise pollution.

Exceeding the Standards

Housing in Forest Lakes Country Club will be designed and built to higher than typical standards, using sustainable materials where possible, and making use of the latest advancements in building envelope technology, passive solar design, ultra-efficient heating and cooling, and water conservation. Building materials will be locally-sourced where possible and recyclable materials will be given a priority.
