THE ENVIRONMENT
Terra Firma Development Corporation

Terra Firma is a member of the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC), an organisation that accelerates the design and construction of green buildings in Canada. Click here to see our Certificate of Membership.

CaGBC is a broad-based inclusive coalition of representatives from different segments of the design and building industry.

Their vision of a 'transformed built environment leading to a sustainable future' very much dovetails with our aim of developing in a socially responsible manner and we will work closely with CaGBC to ensure that this vision becomes a reality.

We will research and implement the latest technologies and thinking in order to create developments that are environmentally sustainable.

According to the Bruntland Commission (formerly the World Commission on Environment and Development), a building project which is considered to be environmentally sustainable ‘meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs’.

Terra Firma recognizes that the world’s natural resources need to be protected now and in the future. Our planning process is based on understanding and utilising the natural and cultural amenities of a site to add both value to a project and to develop communities that are in harmony with the natural surroundings.

We will explore uses of alternative energy both nationally and internationally such as geothermal heating, recycling of waste water, solar panels, wind power and will always stay one step ahead in adopting new eco-friendly methods.

Our building design and construction practices will seek to significantly reduce or eliminate the negative impact of buildings on the environment and occupants in five broad areas:

  • Sustainable site planning
  • Safeguarding water and water efficiency
  • Energy efficiency and renewable energy
  • Conservation of materials and resources
  • Indoor environmental quality

Our Forest Lakes Country Club project housing will be designed and built following the strictest environmental standards, using where possible sustainable materials, making use of the latest advancements in bioclimatic housing while saving on energy and water.

  • Building materials will be first locally sourced where possible and recyclable materials will be given a priority
  • Recycling system will utilize waste water for irrigation purposes
  • Highly insulated homes fitted with combi-boilers only required when outdoor temperatures drop to minus 1 degree centigrade.
